Welcome to Dublin
Dublin is the capital of Ireland and home to more than a third of the country’s population. Located on Ireland’s east coast at the mouth of the River Liffey. A beautiful, energetic, vibrant and welcoming city with plenty of cultures and a rich history. Once voted the sixth friendliest city in the world, you just have to strike up a conversation with a local in a pub or on a bus for a great story, a good laugh or if you need help with directions or recommendations.
Dublin is famous for its pub culture and music, and there are plenty to choose from, with more than 1000 pubs around the city. One of the most iconic bars is the Temple Bar (established in 1840), famous for its central location next to the river but also because it holds Ireland’s largest whiskey collection - with over 450 different kinds of rare whiskies. You also cannot visit the city without having a pint of Guinness, and the Guinness storehouse is well worth a visit showcasing the beer’s history. You can even have a photo of yourself on top of the pint!
Dublin is home to a large variety of historical places. For example, Trinity College; a beautiful old university building famous for the Old Library and The Book of Kells, which is said to have inspired the Harry Potter films and is one of the world’s most beautiful libraries. Other popular historic places to visit include St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle and Kilmainham Gaol.
If you want a break from the busy city, the Phoenix Park is located just a couple of kilometres outside the city and is one of the largest enclosed public parks in any capital city in Europe. The outstanding Cliffs of Moher is also an excellent day trip away from the city; the breathtaking sea cliffs are a recognizable landmark on the big screen for many movies, TV series, music videos and adverts.
